DECEMBER 2005

December 30, 2005

I care not for the O.C., but it's interesting to note in this article that there is a cop-drama series with vampires in the works.

Brotherhood of Blood movie wrapped in Los Angeles. Not sure when we'll see it, though.

December 28, 2005

The Vampire Happening, a 70's movie about a groovy vamp party, is now on DVD. You can read a review here too.

Photos from Lestat the musical are online now. I'm actually excited to see this. What is wrong with me?!

A UK survey finds out what television shows people miss most, and not a surprise to this girl, most of the shows are Sci-Fi.  I mention this in the blog because Buffy is number two and well, we all love Buffy.

December 24, 2005

Already an update for Vampire's Rain, the x-box (and PS3) game, which is at 40% development. What does that mean for us? Hate to ruin the fun, but it's due for a Japanese release in winter of 2006. We'll be lucky to see it in summer of 2007. Isn't that always the way?

Alice Cooper is added to the soundtrack for Bloodrayne, and the website is looking pretty neat too.

A new QA with Joss. Why do you torment me master?!  And why do I include your stuff in my blog?

A review is available for the Dracula vs. King Arthur comic series. Spoilers! But if you're interested, and haven't started reading it yet, this might help you decide to buy it or not.

Lestat (the musical) now has the website up and a few things to look at. He may replace the phantom as being the big scary in the musical world.

December 20, 2005

Vampires versus zombies? I'm all over that. Eastman and Laird are too.

A vampire hunting action game for the X-Box 360. Crap, now I may have to actually consider buying one. Maybe. More info here too.

A new vamp film, Perfect Creature is being made- where humans and vamps peacefully co-exist. Yeah, right. Oops, is that your blood?

December 15, 2005

My new job is taking too much time. I don't have time for vampire news anymore!  I hope no one is too upset I don't update as much. I'll figure something out. I may have to "hire" someone to help me out.

This article only mentions one vampire song ("The Vampire Meets Santa") but it's well written and I love some of the one liners ("Merry Indoctrination, anyone?").

Two new clips from Bloodrayne are now online. I don't expect much from this movie, but I'll still probably go see it anyway.

December 3, 2005

The one-man show Tokyo Vampire debuts - where else - in Tokyo.

Nothing original goes in or out of Hollywood anymore it seems. This is prevalent with Sony purchasing The Historian and naming Finding Neverland's David Magee as the screen writer.

About time!  David Jason (best known by vampire lovers as the voice for Count Duckula) is knighted. Congratulations, Sir Jason!

NOVEMBER 2005

November 29, 2005

A new clip from BloodRayne is available from Canada. I love Canada.

Minnesota author Octavia Butler vamps it up feminist style!

The History Channel astounds once again with History's Greatest Villains, to air on December 1.  Why do I mention this? One great villain- Dracula.

November 26, 2005

The contemporary vampire is much safer than an old world one. Dracula is so passé.

Vampire-like movie Ultraviolet stars Mila Jovavich as one of the vamp-like people protecting a 9 year old boy from the government. Hmm. Sounds fishy-like.

The new X-box title, Kingdom Under Fire: Heroes features a half-vampire character, the "swift and agile" one.

Could it be? A Buffy movie in the works?! Now, Joss...Don't break our hearts like Lucas... Oh, wait I forgot. TOO LATE.

Every other day I know I say this... but seriously. Now, I think I've seen and heard everything vampirish. This time:  Elvis vs. Vampires in Bubba Nosferatu.

November 20, 2005

I will be out of town during T-day week, but I shall return to posting next weekend. Have a safe and happy holiday everyone!

Christmas is for vampires, too! Cartoon Network has their X-mas lineup all set- including Billy and Mandy who have to battle a Santa turned vampire.

November 17, 2005

Marilyn Manson in a vampire movie? Why that's.... not really stretching.

Even the nuts like vampires... A man tries to jump off a bridge, and what's he wearning? Yeah, you got it.

A review of Lunar Legend Tsukihime, an anime vampire hunter.

Vampirism is now a disease. A mental affliction that also affects skin and teeth. Okay, let's get real people!!!

NEW Buffy comics!! Joss writes what he's up to! I still hated Serenity!

November 14, 2005

Ohioans are invaded by vampire...directors. Joe Tonotore is set to film a vampire movie and is scouting locations in Hamilton and Middleton. Another movie is also beginning filming- Soul's Midnight, in the heart of goth (haha), Oklahoma.

Pop culture is trying to claim Vampire Goth. But like most great underground fads, they'd rather be out of the mainstream, thank you very much.

Old school horror flicks bring out the vamps on DVD with the Blind Dead Collection.

Yes, it's a book. But I love the melding of vampires and warewolves. And in Full Moon Rising, there's plenty of that.

Yahoo Movies now has three clips from the Bloodrayne movie.

November 11, 2005

Blade TV series in the works... but will it work?

Fanged and proud- London Vampire Meetup Group boasts 450 members and growing!

November 5, 2005

Want to know what to expect from the new Underworld movie? Lots of blood and gore.

The Vampire Chronicles: The Chaos Tower (video game) will be released on PSP as part of Sony's "The Best" series.

November 3, 2005

Gotta love vamps on TV. HBO is developing a series based on the "Southern Vampire" books.

Did you like the Mortal Combat or Resident Evil movies? The same people who did those are tackling Castlevania.

Vampire Cowboys. I never thought I'd hear this term more than once in a month, but here we go.

If you're a fan of The Vampire Chronicles, then you've undoubtedly heard that Anne Rice has found god and is writing about Jesus now. I'm not including a link for that- if you're interested you'll look it up- but she is no longer one of us.

So many of us are Firefly fans, so it might be of interest to note that Adam Baldwin (Jayne in Firefly) is set to be in a vampire movie called Thirst.

November 2, 2005

It's so easy for a vampire hunter to get bogged down in Halloween festivities. I apologize for the hiatus, and will try to be more consistent. However, I don't really have the numbers to be too worried. Let's face it, there are maybe 3 people - at best - that read this on a regular basis. But for you three people, I'll keep at it. I also don't mind a hello once in a while. Let me know you're reading, and if you have any suggestions.

OCTOBER 2005

October 22, 2005

Nashville doing vampire songs... wow, that's like me trying to do an opera. Not happening.

Where would a vampire hang out? And would he really be dressed as a nobleman? Not likely. More on Jeff Morgan's Folk Lore.

Dark Shadow revival (vampire television) on DVD. Try to rent before you buy, or watch it first somehow... I've never seen this one.

Finally!! The trailer for Underworld: Evolution is here. Check it out!

From video games to movies... Including Bloodrayne out in January.

October 13, 2005

My apologies for lack of news. Or rather, lack of my reporting it. Shall we get to it?

Elton John... a vampire fan? Hmm. I seriously wouldn't have thought him the type. Then again, I wouldn't have pictured him to do Lion King either.

Night Watch thrills audiences in Russia! I hope it's well received elsewhere as well. See reviews from New Statesman,

October 6, 2005

Some actors age so slowly, you'd think they were vampires. Don't laugh people, they're out there!

October 5, 2005

Dracula never stays dead. He'll always revive. And this time, on Nintendo Dual Screen and Game Cube.

Halloween drinks- some with a few vampire themes. Check out Buffy's Vampire Juice and Bloody Passion.

Speaking of Halloween, how 'bout a little history?

October 4, 2005

Bunnicula was one of my favorite stories as a child. And now a musical version has been made of it!  I really hope this one comes to movie theaters sometime.

"Three...Extremees" vampire movie trailer is up, and was directed by a few of Asia's best: Takashi Miike, Fruit Chan, and Park Chan-wuk.

Television networks are already releasing their Halloween day lineups. Nickelodeon, ABC Family and the Disney Channel.

Now I've heard just about everything. Ocho Vampiros, is a "trendy party game for teens and young professionals." It's "based on an urban myth of illegal Mexican vampires."

October 2, 2005

Go Batman Go!!  Batman takes on Dracula in a DVD from the television series out 10/18/05.

We won't get this movie in the states for a while, but I think it sounds interesting. Night Watch, a Russian vampire movie debuts Friday.

SEPTEMBER 2005

September 30, 2005

Rhode Island reiterates that they are indeed the vampire capital of the world.

I really hate it when new versions of movies are released, so people have to go out and buy that one as well. Jumping on the DVD re-release bandwagon is none other than our favorite slayer, with a set in November. This is also a list of other upcoming titles.

Perdue University adds class on Vampires to it's curriculum. Sign me up!

September 29, 2005

You heard it here first. "Fangs are hard to sing with."

September 26, 2005

I'm trying to keep vampire news light as there are a few things wandering out there that no one wants to hear about. Murderers and car thieves calling themselves 'Vampire' for example. I'm not trying to censor the news, but it's likely you're hearing about that stuff on the regular news.

The musical Lestat opens April 13 at the Palace Theater on Broadway, and a few months earlier in San Francisco. This is the one where Elton John is doing the music. Despite that, I think it'll be interesting.

Konami is coming back with more Castlevania, though it's only in the "talk" stages now.

Infinity Studios to release Blood Alone, a Japanese anime tale, in January.

Back on TV... The Buffy cast! But sadly, not together. But they have found jobs on new shows this year. I'm going to take a peek and so should you!

Anything for Joss. No really. Just knowing he's the one behind something is enough to get me interested. His latest script, "Goners" was just picked up by Universal. Go Joss!

September 25, 2005

Okay, so this isn't vampire related (not really) but I want you all to read it anyway. It brings up an interesting point about geekdom becoming mainstream? Do we really want to be mainstream? I guess it's not our call, but Time's Lev Grossman puts it out there to us anyway in The Geek Shall Inherit the Earth.

Fray is in stores now. Check out Joss Whedon's slayer of the future, minus the scoobies.

September 21, 2005

First Dracula, Buffy, and Blade- now merchandising comes alive with Bloodrayne!  "Moy-chan-dizing! That's where the real money from the movie is made!"  - Yogurt, Spaceballs.

Now available on DVD, 1973's Blood for Dracula.

September 20, 2005

Michael Sellers talks about his new movie VLAD, and a bit about his life. I should note that VLAD is not a vampire movie, but more a movie on the origins of Vlad the Impaler, and how he became Dracula.

Another vampire movie in the works is Daybreakers. The vampires out number the humans (who are near extinction) which of course is a problem for the blood-suckers.

September 17, 2005

A contract and a schedule isn't much, but it's somethin'. The Spike movie is still good to go.

Every once in a while I marvel at the fact that 'vampire' comes up so many times in current events references, from comparatives to political groups to singling someone out as a vampire. Or just a blub, like this one, that makes me smile a bit.

I Am Legend is being made into a movie... No, really this time. Francis Lawrence is set to direct the script by Mark Protosevich.

Adrian Paul (of Highlander) talks about his new vampire movie, The Breed (title pending), with Nazi vampires. Neat.

Dracula 3000 airs tonight on Sci Fi channel (9/8c) starring Casper Van Dien.

September 2, 2005

A vampire walks? British born Highgate Society informs us that one is indeed back in the country. I think VHU will be ready for him.

Last weekend was the 19th annual ConChord, and among those attendees will be Filkers - people who sing folk songs with Sci Fi themes, among those themes- Vampires!

Maybe Marsters is too old to play Spike... Well, he's still interested at any rate.

Cover pictures appear of Angel's new comic book, Old Friends.

AUGUST 2005

August 31, 2005

Comics figure out that Angel is popular. Shit, I coulda told 'em that. Thus, a new comic arrives in November: Angel: Old Friends.

Master of Mosquiton: The Vampire, Vol. 1 comes to VHS (not DVD?!) from Japan, anime style.

This will amuse my Minnesota peeps- Northwest Airlines scabs being categorized with vampires. It's amazing what I stumble upon. If you ask me, NWA is the vampire.

Who are these people? X-Box Users Group gives players a description of the vampires and friends in Darkwatch.

SlayerCon hits Knoxville, TN next weekend (not this Labor Day weekend) and is sure to be fun for all slayer wannabe's.

August 30, 2005

The Buffy Collection will arrive in stores November 15th. Most people already have the DVDs though, so I shake my head at Fox's sad attempt to make money.

August 29, 2005

Mary Lambert (of Pet Cemetery fame) is set to direct the vampire western, High Midnight. Yes you read me correctly. Vampire Western.

August 28, 2005

Gil's All Fright Diner, where the vampires are funny, the zombies numerous and the cows... also zombies.

Vampire Gangsters rule. In Alan Moore's "Forty-Niners," they're pretty tough, but the police force handles them well.

August 27, 2005

A vampire midget? Charles Band's latest, Decadent Evil, comes to DVD.

August 26, 2005

Darkwatch (XBox/PS2) reviewed. 4 out of 5 is pretty good considering it's a western... with vampires.

Blood: The Last Vampire (anime short) is being made into a game and a new series. The series is slated for this fall, but the game is only in pre-dev.

Where would you place vampires- Sci Fi or Horror genre? Hard to say. I'm hoping horror for once though with Showtime's new series, Masters of Horror. 13 one-hour movies from horror masters. I don't know for sure if one might include vampires or not, but considering the directors, you never know. And if that doesn't work out for us vampire fans, there's always Masters of Sci Fi to look forward to.

I suppose in a blog about vampires, I can't ignore Vampire Bats. Turns out, Xena can't either.

I didn't want to report this... I kind of hoped it was a joke... But alas, Lestat the Musical invades San Francisco in December and *gulp* Broadway in Spring. This is crazy though- writing the score- Elton John.

August 25, 2005

Vampirella and Witchblade have a crossover this winter in Vampirella/Witchblade: The Feast #1. I'm not big on large-breasted character comic books, but if you're a fan of the Vamp girl, check it out.

August 20, 2005

Another slow week. I was at the video store last night and saw they had a few new vampire movies, but I'd rather not include porn links... hee hee

Sideshow has new pictures of Xander! I'm excited for this one because then all my Buffy figures can play together. They should really make Giles.

The new Underworld movie website is up, but be forewarned- it might ask you to get a new version of flash, which for minimal details on the movie, isn't worth it.

Best Death Scene? A caller to NPR says 'Buffy's Paul Reubens was memorable.

Countdown: Vampires isn't blowing skirts up, but as a preview states, you just can't go wrong with vampire games.

August 14, 2005

Slowest week ever. I've had my hunting cut out for me this week, as there is no vampire news anywhere. At this point, I'm open to suggestions. If you find vampire news, tell me. If you want something else in place of the lack of vampire news, I'm open to thoughts on this. Dancing monkey? Larry's photoshop art? Speak to me!

August 4, 2005

In With the New
Len Wisemen must be picky of his own work, because he said he'd only do a sequel to Underworld if it were nothing like the original. Well, have at it Len.

Spike TV
I hate rumors, but sometimes that's all we have to go on. Supposedly, Joss Whedon is interested in doing a TV-movie on the Buffy vamp, Spike. Cool!

JULY 2005

July 30, 2005

Vampires, werewolves, oh my!
Kate Beckinsale returns in Underworld 2 (Underworld: Evolution) in January. Beckinsale states in her interview with Sci Fi channel that there's "a lot more fighting this time."

July 29, 2005

What the hell does he know?
Freddie Prinze Jr. says wife Sarah Michelle Gellar won't do a 'Buffy' movie. Who asked you anyway?

Dracula vs. King Arthur

Shadowplay
Amber Benson, of 'Buffy' fame, is writing Shadowplay, a mini-series comic from IDW Publishing, due out this September. Shadowplay revolves around a boy who gets stuck in the vampire world.

July 24, 2005

Bloodsuckers!
Screw going outside on those hot July nights. Watch TV!  Saturday (July 30) the Sci Fi channel presents Bloodsuckers, an original movie about vampires in space. From Entertainment Weekly's Mandi Bierly: "The year is 2210, and the galaxy is overrun with Nosferatus. A vampire-sanitation crew...hunts the titular 'fangheads,' while a cult of sympathizers schemes against them. It's a movie about the virtues of loyalty, recklessness and tantric vampire sex." Sounds like my kind of movie.

July 20, 2005

Buffy Toys
Diamond Select Toys is at it again with some new Buffy figures coming soon. Also coming this winter is the Sunnydale High School library playset*.  Now if we could only get Xander's basement and a Buffy's House playsets, we'd be great!

More in vampire toy news, Gentle Giant Studios is releasing Count Burns* from one of the Simpson's Tree House of Terror episodes as part of the bust-up collection (not regular "action figures"), due out in October.

* Both pictures courtesy of Toy Fare magazine- Go buy one!

July 18, 2005

Dark Horse Comics
Anyone interested in comics? Last week Dark Horse comics announced their plans in the upcoming year (and into 2006) for some new comics. Dracula: Book One Asylum, coming this December, is "set against the backdrop of World War II."  There are also a few other upcoming comics featuring zombies! And though not vampire related, one of our members favorite comics is coming to book format in December as well:  Penny Arcade!

July 14, 2005

Historian at #2
The Historian, by Elizabeth Kostova is at number 2 on the New York Times bestseller list this week. Premise: "A young woman's quest to learn the truth about her father's life and her mother's death involves research into Vlad the Impaler and Dracula."

Bloodrayne
This news is a couple days old, but I'm new to this blog thing, so you'll have to give me some time to catch up. Anyway, by now most people have heard of Bloodrayne. The popular video game half vampire character who killed nazis in her first game and more of her family of vampires in her second. (PC Game version of BR2 is out on July 26). Well, it doesn't take Hollywood long these days to capitalize on something they don't know much about. Bloodrayne the movie will debut late this year or early next year, but the teaser trailer is already making it's way around the internet, as is the movie poster.  Uwe Boll (House of the Dead) is directing, but rumor has it he can't find a U.S. distributor. Well, he should have cast Bloodrayne's true look-alike, Milla Jovovich in the lead, huh? Sorry, had to slip my opinion in there. The official movie site isn't back up yet, but keeping watching if you're interested. But as always, the fans are better updated than most, so check out the Bloodrayne fan site too.

July 11, 2005

Sims 2
The new Sims 2 "Nightlife" Expansion will have a vampire in it! Count Alex, a Grand Vampire, will make his debut this fall, joining already existing weird characters in Sims 2 like the aliens and zombies.

Donate Blood
Give Blood!! No, really- it's a good cause. Diamond Select Toys is giving away a Spike action figure from 5th season Angel to those that participate in the blood drive at San Diego's Comic-Con this year.

A Bloody Good Read By Susan Larson (Seen in the Star Tribune)

If you're a vampire fan, get out your garlic and crucifix. You'll be burning the midnight oil with Elizabeth Kostova's "The Historian," a fresh take on the Dracula legend, seen through the eyes of scholars in hot pursuit of the old bloodsucker's grave. And at 642 pages, it's a very long pursuit indeed.

The Vampire Lectures by Laurence A. Rickels
(University of Minnesota Press
)

A wild and wide-ranging "psycho-history" of the vampire.

Undead and Well-Read by Kristen Tillotson (Seen in the Star Tribune)

MaryJanice Davidson writes popular fiction for a specialty subgenre with an intriguing label -- paranormal romance. Well, some of us might say, isn't all romance paranormal at one time or another?

Davidson will be promoting her new book (as well as signing) at the Roseville, MN Barnes and Noble on July 19th.

JUNE 2005

June 23, 2005

Sideshow Collectables Tara DiLullo has an exclusive interview with Joss Whedon, creator of Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel. Whedon reflects on the Buffy toys, Firefly and his new project Wonder Woman.  Sideshow also places their complete line-up of characters on Sunnydale High's 1999 yearbook. Take a look; It's really quite cool.

Dracula, the Silver Screen edition, is now available for pre-order. If I had the money, I'd get it.
